Sinotruk returns to the top three in terms of heavy truck sales in April. SAIC Hongyan is close to the top five.
According to the latest information from cvworld.cn, in April 2019, the domestic truck market sold a total of 369,300 vehicles, down 19% month-on-month and up 1% year-on-year. Among them, the heavy truck market sold 118,800 units, down 20% month-on-month and 3% year-over-year, more than 4,000 units less than the 122,800 units sold in April last year.
Looking at the chart of heavy truck sales and growth from January to April in recent years, it can be seen that in the three years from 2016 to 2018, both from the perspective of single month sales in April and the cumulative sales from January to April, the heavy truck market showed a steady rise. It is not difficult to see from the above figure that since 2016, the heavy truck market began to recover significantly, and there was an explosive growth in 2017. The monthly growth in April 2017 was over 50%, and the cumulative growth from January to April reached 80%, which showed the fierce growth momentum. Sales were still growing in 2018, but at a much slower pace than in 2017. Entering into 2019, the monthly sales volume in April and the cumulative sales volume in the previous four months both declined slightly compared with the same period in 2018, but both of them could be attributed to a small decline.
As can be seen from the above table, the heavy truck market sales in April reached 118,800 vehicles, down 20% from the previous month and 3% from the previous year, and the growth rate turned negative from March (+7%). In April, four enterprises in the heavy truck market sold more than 10,000 vehicles. The top two brands, FAW and Dongfeng are still over 20,000 vehicles, and FAW is still over 30,000 vehicles.
From the perspective of market share, the combined share of the top ten enterprises in sales volume reached 96.61% in April, while that of the top five enterprises reached 83.17%. The fiercest competition is still the third place between Sinotruk and Shacman -- in March, Shaanxi Automobile surpassed Sinotruk by 0.03% and in April, Sinotruk surpassed Shaanxi Automobile by 0.44%.
In terms of growth rate, four of the top ten enterprises in terms of sales volume in April increased while the other six decreased. The top two enterprises in terms of sales volume achieved a growth rate of 13 percent and 9 percent respectively. The other two enterprises achieving growth were Danyun and XCMG, with a growth rate of 2 percent and 22 percent respectively. Five companies suffered double-digit declines, led by JAC motor, which fell 34.9% in April from a year earlier.
