Several mistakes of operating engines of concrete mixers


A concrete mixer is a truck which is used for transporting concrete for construction. This kind of truck is equipped with a cylindrical mixing drum to transport concrete. The mixing drum will keep rotating all the time so as to ensure that concrete is not solidified during transportation. After transporting the concrete, the mixing drum is usually washed by water in order to prevent solidified concrete taking up space and making the volume of the mixing drum become smaller and smaller.

Engines of concrete mixers play a key role in the whole operating process, and many people have a lot of misunderstanding of engines of concrete mixers. Mistakes of operating engines of concrete mixers are as the following.

1. Blindly removing the thermostat of the engine 
Some concrete mixer drivers think that temperature of the engine is high, so they blindly remove  the thermostat of the engine. Coolant liquid can not adjust the cooling intensity. Therefore, the engine working at low temperature will lead to the loss of power and increased fuel consumption. Actually, low temperature is harmful to the engine. The concrete mixer should be used at normal temperature in order to ensure the service life of the engine of the concrete mixer truck.

2. A misunderstanding of tighter fan belt of the concrete mixer
The tight fan belt is not better. Too tight fan belts will not only extend the fan belt, shortening the service life of the fan belt, but also lead to bending and deformation of the concrete mixer's generator shafts and pump spindles and early damage of the bearings due to high pressure. The fan belt of the concrete mixer's engine should meet the technical requirements. Usually, the difference of length of the fan belt should be between 10 to 15 mm.

3. Idling the engine of the concrete mixer
Many drivers know that if the engine speed of the concrete mixer is too high, the engine will be damaged due to poor lubrication when the truck is just started. However, only a few people know that the oil pump of a concrete mixer can not lubricate the parts of the engine due to low speed when a concrete mixer has not been used for a long time. All the mobile parts of the engine will be working in the condition of dry or semi-dry friction. Meanwhile, the not burned fuel getting into the crankcase will wash off the oil film of the cylinder wall and accelerate wear of the part, because the fuel is not atomized well under low temperature. Therefore, several minutes after the engine of a concrete mixer is started, the engine should be heated with a fast speed so as to lubricate the engine well.

Therefore, many breakdowns of concrete mixer trucks are caused by people's misconceptions and wrong maintenance, and awareness of proper maintenance plays a very good role in the service life of the concrete mixer.
